The Maxiscan M OBDII/EOBD scanner is specifically designed for all OBD II compliant vehicles, including those equipped with the next generation protocol, Control Area Network (CAN). EPA requires that all vehicles (sedans and light trucks) sold in the United States in 1996 and later must comply with OBD II, including all domestic, Asian and European vehicles.
A few 1994 and 1995 gasoline vehicles meet the OBD II standard. To verify that 1994 or 1995 vehicles are OBD II compliant, check the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label under the hood or next to the radiator on most vehicles. If the vehicle complies with OBD II, the label will indicate "OBD II certification". In addition, government regulations require that all vehicles complying with OBD II must have a "universal" 16 pin data link connector (DLC).
To make your vehicle comply with OBD II, there must be a 16 pin DLC (data link connector) under the instrument panel, and the vehicle emission control information label must indicate that the vehicle complies with OBD II.
Vehicle link error:
If the scan tool fails to communicate with the ECU (engine control unit) of the vehicle, a communication error will occur. You need to check the following:
Confirm that the ignition switch is on;
Check whether OBD II connector of the fault diagnosis instrument is firmly connected to DLC of the vehicle;
Verify whether the vehicle meets the requirements of OBD2;
Switch off the ignition and wait about 10 seconds. Switch on the ignition again and continue the test.
Verify that the control module is not faulty
Operation error:
If the scan tool freezes, an exception occurs or the vehicle's ECU (engine control unit) is too slow to respond to the request. You need to do the following to reset the tool:
Press and hold the POWER button for at least 2 seconds to reset the scan tool.
Switch off the ignition and wait about 10 seconds. Switch on the ignition again and continue the test.
The scan tool cannot be powered on:
If the scan tool fails to power up or operates abnormally in any other way, the following steps should be performed:
Check whether OBD II connector of the fault diagnosis instrument is firmly connected to DLC of the vehicle;
Check if the data link connector pins are bent or broken. If necessary, clean the data link connector pins.
